Penelope
Arrival: May 2026
Meet Penelope: Tiny Body, Enormous Heart
Penelope is an 8-year-old, 37-pound pocket pittie searching for her second chance at forever.
Her first family loved her deeply, but when her dad entered hospice, they were forced to say goodbye. Through it all, Penelope has remained the sweetest, most loving girl imaginable.
She adores people, lives for affection, and believes every couch should come with a designated snuggle spot just for her. She's house trained, crate trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and rides like a champ in the car, although she should probably come with a disclaimer: Window controls are not safe from this clever little lady!
Penelope loves squeaky toys, enjoys a good game of fetch, and enthusiastically retrieves her toys... bringing them all the way back is optional and depends entirely on her mood.
She can be selective with other dogs and appreciates slow introductions, but what she really wants is a family to call her own and a cozy place to spend her golden years.
Penelope has already had her heart broken once. We're hoping the next chapter of her story is filled with belly rubs, car rides, squeaky toys, and the forever family she's been waiting for.
Penelope is available for adoption now. Come meet her, you'll fall in love.
Goose
Arrival May 2026
Some dogs arrive and immediately make themselves at home. Goose wasn't one of those dogs.
When Goose first came to us, he wasn't quite sure what to make of the world around him. New people, new dogs, new routines. He watched from a distance, carefully deciding who he could trust. At six years old, he's learned that not everything in life is certain, so he takes his time getting to know you. But when Goose decides you're one of his people, something beautiful happens.... The walls come down.
Suddenly, the cautious dog becomes your shadow. He follows you from room to room, watches your every move, and looks at you with those soft brown eyes as if you're the most important person in the world. His love isn't given away freely, which somehow makes it even more special when you've earned it. Goose is one of those dogs who makes you smile every single day.
He loves toys with the enthusiasm of a puppy. He walks beautifully on a leash, rides quietly in the car, knows his basic commands, and is such a gentleman that he'll often wait and let you walk through the door first.
Then there's dinner time.
If you've never witnessed Goose preparing for a meal, you're missing out on one of life's great entertainments.
The second he realizes food is being served, he begins his performance. First comes the hopeful whining. Then the dramatic moans and grumbles. His tail starts wagging furiously as he alternates between sounds that can only be described as part happy dog, part tiny dinosaur, and part professional food critic filing a complaint about service delays... And then comes the grand finale... Goose begins to prance, bounce, and launch himself straight into the air. Not a little hop. Not a tiny bounce. Goose achieves liftoff. His excitement is so pure and so joyful that you can't help but laugh.
Every day he becomes a little more comfortable, a little more trusting, and a little more confident. Watching him settle in and discover that he is safe has been one of the greatest gifts.
We are hopeful that Goose has finally found the place where he belongs. As with all of the dogs in our care, providing that safety comes with ongoing expenses. Food, veterinary care, preventatives, enrichment, toys, and all of the little things that help a dog heal and thrive quickly add up.
If Goose's story made you smile, please consider making a donation in his honor. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ensure that dogs like Goose have the time, patience, care, and love they need while they learn to trust again.
And trust us, seeing Goose launch himself six feet into the air because dinner is five minutes late is worth every penny.
Benjamin
May 2026
Benjamin’s story is still unfolding, one slow step, soft tail wag, and stubborn dinner negotiation
at a time. Benjamin recently arrived to us from a shelter in Virginia after being found stuck in a
fence row along a rural road. At 15 years old, this little gentleman has already endured more
than any dog should. He is completely blind in one eye, has very limited vision in the other, and
is also very hard of hearing. Despite all of that, Benjamin continues to quietly amaze us every
single day.
He is already beginning to acclimate to the layout of our home and has started exploring on his
own, carefully mapping out his new world one tiny adventure at a time. Watching him build
confidence has been incredibly special.
Mealtime with Benjamin has become its own event entirely. Somehow, he is making Lady Bug
look easy when it comes to being picky. His food must be prepared just right or he simply
refuses to participate in the dining experience. Benjamin also operates entirely on “Benjamin
Time.” He eats when he decides to eat, drinks when he decides to drink, and could not care less
about my personal opinions regarding hydration.
Outside time, however, is one of his greatest joys. He absolutely loves feeling the fresh air and
relaxing outdoors. One of the sweetest things he does is tilt his little head when he hears my
voice, followed by the gentlest tail wag that melts you instantly. It is his quiet way of saying, “I
know you’re there.”
Benjamin has also discovered the luxury of soft dog beds and cool air from the AC unit, both of
which he seems to fully believe were invented specifically for him.
We are still getting to know this precious little guy, and he is still learning that he is safe, loved,
and no longer alone. We cannot wait to continue discovering all the tiny things that make
Benjamin who he is.
Wally
Wally came to us from the same Virginia shelter as Avery. They arrived May 16, 2026. Back then, his name was Torn. A name that felt a little too close to what life had already done to him. We decided to call him Wally instead because I swore he sounded like a walrus when he barked. My husband quickly corrected me and said, “That is definitely a seal.”
We have learned Wally suffered some severe abuse. He had been very skittish around the other dogs but is slowly starting to realize he is in a safe place. One thing about Wally is he is a snuggle bug. Absolutely loves to curl up in your arms and would be content to stay there with you all day. This little guy has so much personality and we are looking forward to integrating him into our pack.
Mr. Avery
May-2026
At 15 years old this sweet old soul is carrying an entire lifetime in his heart right now. Sometimes the seniors arrive carrying more than just gray faces and tired bones. Sometimes they arrive carrying
heartbreak.
He is a handsome Lab/Pittie mix who recently lost everything he has ever known. His mom, his brother, and the home where he spent his entire life are suddenly gone. Right now, he is still mourning that loss, and we are taking things one gentle day at a time as we get to know each other. What we do know already is that he has the sweetest puppy dog eyes that seem to say a thousand words without making a sound. He loves toys and balls, gets genuinely excited for mealtime, and has quickly discovered that the giant comfy beds here are one of life’s greatest treasures. Most of the time, you can find him happily curled up on one like a king on his throne.
The biggest gift so far has been watching him slowly begin to trust again. At first, he kept his feelings tucked away, but now he has started walking up to ask for cuddles on his own. Those little moments feel huge. Each nudge for affection feels like a tiny stitch helping mend a broken
heart.
He may be 15, but he still has so much life, love, and sweetness left to give. We already love him dearly and will continue to keep everyone updated as we learn more about this very
Cherry
Cherry is a 7 to 9 year old gentle soul who joined us on January 24th, 2026. She’s a quiet lady with a playful spark, and we’re still getting to know her as her personality unfolds a little more each day.
She observes first, then leans in. Today, she surprised us by playing with a ball, a small moment that felt like a big win. Cherry seeks out affection in the sweetest ways, happily soaking up head rubs and belly rubs, and she’s a curious sort who loves to follow you from room to room just to see what you’re up to.
Food is definitely one of her love languages, and attention is a close second. Cherry may be soft-spoken, but her presence is warm and steady, and we can’t wait to see all the layers of her beautiful personality continue to bloom.
Calvin
Calvin arrived with Cherry from a rural shelter in Virginia, making the journey north together and stepping into a whole new chapter. He’s estimated to be 10 to 13 years old and is a small guy carrying a little too much love around his middle. We’re gently working on helping him shed some weight, one careful step at a time.
Calvin does love food, but cuddles are truly his love language. He waddles after you with hopeful determination, just in case an ear scratch might be coming his way. He absolutely adores attention and will even try to purr or let out a happy little groan when you find that perfect spot.
His favorite things include his cozy bed and any human equipped with two hands ready for rubbing or scratching. Calvin is pure comfort wrapped in fur, soft, affectionate, and endlessly endearing.
I was so tired I couldn't complete my crawl into bed
Molly
Molly joined us this past October after a wonderful woman with two small children reached out for help. She had rescued Molly from a hoarding situation and poured her heart into her care, but mounting medical needs made it impossible to continue on her own. We were lucky enough to scoop this big-hearted girl right up.
Molly never received the memo that she is 12 years old, or that she’s a big girl. In her mind, life is one giant celebration. She loves all things food-related with Olympic-level enthusiasm and believes every toy exists solely to be adored. To date, she has not met a toy she didn’t love.
If Molly spots something she wants, proceed with caution. She will happily run you over in her excitement. She does listen, but excitement tends to take the wheel, because everything in life is simply too good not to be thrilled about. Molly is joy on four legs, loud, loving, and always ready for whatever comes next.
Ladybug arrived in January 2025. She was surrendered to us by a young woman who had to move out of state and unfortunately could not bring her. She is very quirky in nature; has a wicked overbite and the tiniest chicklet teeth you've ever seen. She is certainly not shy to let you know she wants something. She snorts, huffs, and yips while empathetically stomping her feet. Underneath the attitude is a deep loving soul. She loves her butt scratched and her belly rubbed, and she lets you know just how much its appreciated. She makes me smile every day I look at her. She did come to us with chronic ear infections, which we have been treating.
Update: Ladybug still has the infection in her left ear. We have been to two vets and tried several different treatments. Finally got a culture done on the bacteria and are hopeful this treatment will work. Pray for her!!
